Summer and time off are perfect for adventures with your dog – hiking, on the lake, or cycling. With the right preparations, the vacation will be safe and fun for both of you.
1. On foot together
Sweden has fantastic hiking trails, from mountains to the plains of Skåne – and why not head to the Alps!
- Get your dog used to a saddlebag so it can carry its own food.
- Pack a first-aid kit and paw balm.
- In national parks, nature reserves, and reindeer herding areas, dogs must be on a leash year-round – a harness with an extendable leash is a good choice.
- Ensure your dog drinks plenty and adjust the trip to its stamina.
2. Boating with a dog
Many dogs love boating! For the best boating summer together – consider this:
- A well-fitting life vest with a handle for the dog.
- Non-slip mats make the boat safer, and fresh water should always be on board.
- Avoid swimming during algal blooms as algae can be toxic.
3. Cycling adventures
Your dog can accompany you beside the bike, in a bike trailer, or a basket depending on its size.
- Train in advance if the dog is to run alongside the bike.
- Preferably choose gravel roads and trails instead of asphalt, which can wear down paws.
-
Adjust pace and length to suit the dog.
